They start out as treaded tires for the wet but after a few hard laps the tread comes off revealing a brand new slick for the now dry track.

I had a set of those on the rear of my bmw. Between the complete lack of tread and the 1.5" of play in the rear end, 70kph in the middle lane on the highway, in traffic, while raining, was the most adrenaline inducing ride of my life.
